The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.
For so many years I thought that this verse meant that God was going to give me the desires of my heart, like Psalms 37:4 says. That he would bring to perfection all the things that concerned me, and while he does give us the desires of our heart, he is a God that is faithful to create new things from ashes.
Five years ago we spent our honeymoon night in a hotel in the Galleria area of Houston, Texas before we left on our cruise. If you have never been to the Galleria the streets, they might as well be lined with gold to match the cost of everything there. Its definitely a ritzy part of town. I remember seeing all of the shiny, fancy cars, expensive name brand stores, and big immaculate magazine homes, and thinking Lord I would like this stuff one day. Well the Lord was faithful, he gave us the suburban I always wanted, and a nice home. Our kids are all in activities that I never thought we could afford without major debt. While we are by no means rich, we do not lack for anything. He is our provider in every sense!!
Five years later we came back to the same hotel we stayed at on our honey moon night. As we walk around enjoying our time away from the business of life, all of the things that we desired five years ago is gone. In my heart I’m grateful that we have them, but in my mind all I can think about is how I would rather be on a mission trip, living a more simple life, and spending my days loving on the less fortunate. Was that a desire of my heart five years ago, not really!!! The Lord has perfected the concerns of my heart to line up with his will for our lives. Because I desired to be used, and allowed him, he came in and moved things around. He changed the priority of things I guess you could say. Every season the priorities change. Right now he has us enjoying Him and being in His presence, in addition to our children and there many athletic events of course. While their are desires for ministry stirring deep within, the Lord just wants us to desire being with him and in his presence. I once heard a wise leader say “When we worship we should not come with the desires we want fulfilled, but come only to spend time with Him”. We should come only to worship him for the amazing father he is. You see, God knows the desires of our heart, he put them there after all. All he desires is for us to come and sit at his feet, and he will take care of the rest. Like Martha, some times we get so busy with life that we forget about the one who created it. In those times of business, and trying to get everything done. Sometimes we can miss what He is saying to us. We can miss what He is trying to do in us. It is not that He does not speak to us daily, but that the business tends to drown out that still small voice. So if you long to have God perfect in you everything that he has planned out for your future, if you long to truly hear what he is saying to you and know what he has created you for then take some time to just sit at His feet enamored at who He is and what He has done for you! And then dream a little with him, let him infuse you with your identity and the plans he has for your future.
